Pac-12 Picks – Week 12

Well, that was a disappointing game.  I’m not as angry or disappointed as other people out there but I’m bummed.  I hope Keith is okay, and I hope this team figures out how to win on the road sometime.  UCLA wasn’t any better than they were, but they shot themselves in the foot to start and never could recover, especially with a backup QB in.

I see many people jumping off the UW bandwagon tonight and that’s fine.  Some people take this game more than serious than I do and have extremely high expectations.  That’s fine, as long as those expectations are realistic.  In this case, they are realistic, I’m just skeptical of another coach being able to do a better job than Sark.  One thing that does need to happen is for people to let this season play out.  There are lots of negative people who would rather rip on the players and coaches than cheer for the team.  That’s sad.  I sat through every game of an 0-12 season and cheered on my team.  I wouldn’t be a fan if I did otherwise.  Cheer for your team. Be upset when they lose, but never become so obsessed or negative that you can’t celebrate when the team wins or cheer when the game is going on.

Lastly, I keep meaning to write a post about referees and entertainment within the game.  I’m not going to tonight because I’m pretty upset with the refs (the Huskies probably wouldn’t have won tonight regardless) and how they cost the Huskies a minimum of 7 points tonight.  I sat through a miserable basketball game last night that was poorly officiated.  Officiating is a real problem in football and basketball (especially in the Pac-12).  While baseball made a move to help officials with replay this week, football and basketball keep adding rules to make incompetent officials even worse.  Referees are constantly affecting the outcome of games and something needs to be done to stop it.

Anyway, on to the picks this week!

WSU at Arizona
The Good Guys:  Arizona

Utah at Oregon
The Good Guys:  Oregon

California at Colorado
Dan, Matthew, Joe:  Cal
Andrew:  Colorado

Stanford at USC
The Good Guys:  Stanford

OSU at ASU

The Standings! (These don’t include the UW game tonight)

Dan 60-12  (.833)
Matthew 59-13  (.819)
Andrew 58-14  (.806)

Pac-12 Picks – Week 11

What a way to start the week!  Last night Oregon was demolished (the final score was closer than it really was) by Stanford.  In a way, it almost felt like the end of a mini dynasty.  There were players crying on the Oregon sideline but there were also guys laughing.  It was a strange sight.  Their whole team seemed lost and, as a Husky fan, it was a great sight.  Some people would call that feeling petty and catty.  I guess they may be right, but why do they like words that end in ‘tty’ so much?  Really, that’s what sports are about.  You cheer against your rival no matter what and it may seem silly to some, but then again sports are just cheering for some guy to shoot a ball through a hoop or pass a ball to another guy.  I’m planning on writing a post about this thought soon but people need to just have fun with sports.  Take it as seriously as you want to, but just enjoy it.

That was a weird tangent but I’m hoping you’re still with us.  Pac-12 basketball is about to tip-off and this week is filled basketball games as well as football games.  We had our fantasy draft and I think all of the Good Guys are excited to see how the season plays out.

As for this week in football, the marquee game is already over.  All of the Good Guys (and our commenter Tyler) picked Oregon to win last night.  There are still some interesting games but anything more after last night is just gravy.

Oregon at Stanford (last night, Oregon lost!)
The Good Guys:  Oregon

USC at Cal
The Good Guys:  USC

ASU at Utah
The Good Guys:  ASU

UCLA at Arizona
Dan, Joe, Matthew:  Arizona
Andrew:  UCLA

As always, our Husky picks will come tonight or tomorrow.  Here’s the standings!

Standings:
Dan 57-10  (.851)
Matthew 56-11  (.836)
Andrew 54-13 (.806)
Joe 52-15 (.776)
Tyler (Commenter) 39-10 (.796)

Have a good weekend!

Pac-12 Picks – Week 10

I’m writing this as one Pac-12 game is going on, and another game has already been completed.  I did tweet out last night’s picks so I feel like we have got that covered and I received texts from everyone for these games a long time before tonight’s game.

Currently USC leads Oregon State 7-0 in what is no doubt the Pac-12 game of the week.  Saturday’s games feature decent teams playing bottom-feeders.  With a few great games coming next weekend, this seems like a good time to have a little bit of a down week.

Matthew inched closer to Dan in the standings last week.  Joe and I are trying to salvage their season and catch up.  With my Pac-12 fantasy football team about to be eliminated from playoff contention, I’m really holding out hope for a few lucky picks along the way.  Also, the Good Guys are going to be playing Pac-12 Fantasy Basketball with a draft next week.  I may try to document this draft in some way because I’m guessing there can’t be more than 30 other people in the country who do this.

Anyway, let’s get to the picks.

Arizona State at WSU (Last night, ASU won)
The Good Guys:  ASU

USC at Oregon State
The Good Guys:  Oregon State

Arizona at Cal
The Good Guys:  Arizona

Colorado at UCLA
The Good Guys:  UCLA

Standings:

Dan 54-9 (.857)
Matthew 53-10 (.841)
Andrew 51-12 (.810)
Joe 49-14  (.778)
Tyler (Commenter) 35-10  (.778)

Have a good weekend!

Pac-12 Picks – Week 9

Well, last week was rough.  First the game on Saturday and then the passing of Don James on Sunday made for a very dark weekend for Husky fans.

In a way, this week has been therapeutic.  The stories that KJR has run this weekend on the Dawgfather have been fantastic, especially the Honks on Tuesday and Neuheisel’s song today.  Listening to the stories has brought everyone together and I hope for a celebration tomorrow night that is unforgettable.  Our prayers and thoughts go out to Carol James and the rest of the James family.

In the last few weeks, Dan has pulled away in our picking standings.  We all have a little too much faith in the Huskies and he’s been a little more realistic I guess.  Let’s see if we can catch him.  Here are this week’s picks!

Utah vs. USC – 1:00 P.M.
Dan, Joe, Matthew – USC
Andrew – Utah

UCLA vs. Oregon – 4:00 P.M.
The Good Guys – Oregon

Arizona vs. Colorado – 5:00 P.M.
The Good Guys – Arizona

Stanford vs. Oregon State – 7:30 P.M.
Andrew, Matthew – Stanford
Dan, Joe – Oregon State

Standings:
Dan 50-8 (.862)
Matthew 48-10 (.827)
Andrew 47-11 (.810)
Joe 45-13 (.776)
Tyler (Commenter) 30-10 (.750)

Go Dawgs! And thank you, Don James.

Pac-12 Picks – Week 7

Things are heating up for the Good Guys.  We had a round-table post up this morning and Matthew’s weekly power rankings.  Following this post we’ll have a mascot post and our Husky predictions tomorrow.  In other words, catch up on your reading and stay tuned!  The truth is, I have to write some stuff to keep my head off finding a person in green and yellow and yelling at them (self note: remind wife to not wear green or yellow in the next few days).

I’ll keep this pretty short since there is a Pac-12 game in 2 hours.  This is the first week where all of the Pac-12 teams play so that’s exciting.  Mo’ football = No Mo’ problems.  Sorry about that.  There is a few interesting games outside of the marquee match-up of UW-Oregon (Ducks suck).  Arizona-USC, which is tonight, will knock a team completely out of the South division race and will go a long ways in to deciding bowl order.  Stanford-Utah is interesting because no one can decide exactly how good Stanford or Utah is (people seem to forget that Utah lost to Oregon State at home and Stanford beat two ranked teams).  Oregon State-WSU is a nice match-up that should produce a lot of entertainment and points.  So, there are no shortage of interesting picks this week.  Here we go!

Arizona vs. USC – Thursday 7:30 P.M.
The Good Guys:  USC

Stanford vs. Utah – Saturday 3:00 P.M.
The Good Guys:  Stanford

Colorado vs. ASU – 7:00 P.M.
The Good Guys:  ASU

Cal vs. UCLA – 7:30 P.M.
The Good Guys:  UCLA

OSU vs. WSU – 7:30 P.M.
The Good Guys:  OSU

I can’t believe we all picked the same teams.  It seemed like there might be a chance for some separation in the pick ’em standings this week.  No such luck.  Here are the standings:

Andrew 38-7 (.844)
Dan 38-7 (.844)
Joe 37-8 (.822)
Matthew 37-8 (.822)
Tyler (Commenter) 21-6 (.778)

Go Dawgs!

Pac-12 Picks – Week 6

Hey there, Good Guys readers!  I’m late on these picks but I promise that we all submitted our picks before UCLA won last night.  I had planned to put up more posts this week but it turned into a really weird week and I didn’t get around to it.  I may still put up a thing or two before the Husky game tomorrow night but for now I’m going with the picks.  Just the picks!

There are a few interesting games in the conference this week, namely UW-Stanford.  The byes have set up a little bit weird this year.  There hasn’t been a week where every single conference team plays on the same day.  I believe that changes next week but I’m not positive.  Maybe that is normal but it has made the schedule feel a little bit disjointed to me.

I’m fairly sure that last paragraph made next to no sense so here are the picks.

UCLA vs. Utah – This game already happened and UCLA won.  Barely.
The Good Guys:  UCLA (I promise we all made this pick before the game)

WSU vs. Cal – 1 P.M.
Andrew, Joe: Cal
Dan, Matthew: WSU

Oregon vs. Colorado – 3 P.M.
The Good Guys:  Oregon

Arizona State vs. Notre Dame – 4:30 P.M.
Andrew, Dan, Matthew:  ASU
Joe:  Notre Dame

Current standings:

Andrew 35-5  (.875)
Dan 34-6  (.850)
Joe 33-7  (.825)
Matthew 33-7  (.825)
Tyler (Commenter)  18-4  (.818)

FOOOOOOTBAAAALLLLLL!!

Pac-12 Picks – Week 5

Sorry, things have been a little bit busy this week so we skipped over the Idaho State recap (did we really need it anyway?) and the mascot post (inexcusable).  I’ll try to get back to these regularly scheduled posts in the next few weeks but there are things to do!

For now, we have our picks for the week!  After last week’s lame slate of games, this week has a chance of real excitement!  Conference play begins and things always get more interesting.  Tomorrow night at 10, we will have 3 conference games all in their second half!  Party!  Leave your picks in the comments if you want to.

Colorado vs. Oregon State – Noon
Andrew, Dan, Matthew:  Oregon State
Joe:  Colorado

Stanford vs. WSU – 7:00 P.M.
The Good Guys:  Stanford

USC vs. Arizona State – 7:30 P.M.
The Good Guys:  Arizona State

Cal vs. Oregon – 7:30 P.M.
The Good Guys:  Oregon

Current Standings:
Andrew 30-5 (.857)
Dan 29-6 (.829)
Joe 29-6 (.829)
Matthew 28-7 (.800)
Tyler (Commenter) 13-4 (.765)

As always, the Husky picks will come a little bit later.  Let’s do this, football!

Pac-12 Picks – Week 4

After last week’s exciting slate of games, we don’t have a lot of excitement this weekend.  The conference game is our best match-up yet (Stanford-ASU) but other than that there isn’t much to look forward to it.  The Pac-12 is an underdog in only one game (BYU-Utah) and needs to avoid stubbing their toe against weaker competition.

Here are our picks for the week (UW picks come tomorrow).  Add yours in the comments.

Utah State vs. USC – 12:30 P.M.
The Good Guys:  USC

Oregon State vs. San Diego State – 3:30 P.M.
The Good Guys:  Oregon State

ASU vs. Stanford – 4 P.M.
The Good Guys:  Stanford

Utah vs. BYU – 7:15 P.M.
Andrew, Dan, Matthew:  BYU
Joe:  Utah

New Mexico State vs. UCLA – 7:30 P.M.
The Good Guys:  UCLA

Idaho at WSU – 7:30 P.M.
The Good Guys:  WSU

Here are the standings for the year!

Andrew 24-4 (.857)
Dan 23-5 (.821)
Matthew 22-6 (.786)
Joe 22-6 (.786)
Tyler 7-3 (commenter) (.700)

Enjoy your football, everybody!

Andrew
